When using any of the square sample holders, use the side length of the sample as the "diameter" when you input the measurement definitions. So far, I have seen no other sample holder listed in the measurement software except the Std SiC 10mm^2; I have therefore used this for 8x8 samples.
Based on what a representative of NETZCH showed us in screen snapshots, other LFA machines they manufacture include software that has options for 8x8 sample holders. For some reason, the LFA 457 either does not have these other holders listed in the measurement software, or it is somehow hidden from plain sight.
